Mozart in Vienna
In 1781, Mozart finally breaks up with Salzburg and starts to be an independent artist in Vienna, which isn’t easy to begin with. Right away, he falls in love with Konstanze Weber, Aloysia’s younger sister. Against the will of his father, Mozart and Konstanze get married in 1782. About the same time, Mozart is assigned to compose another opera – “Die Entführung aus dem Serail” premiers in July 1782 with great success.
Mozart now is in the middle of an intensive, productive and highly successful phase of his life as piano player and composer, which also earns him a lot of money. Even his father has to admit, that his son has established himself well in Vienna.
In 1784 Mozart joins the lodge of the “Freimaurer”, where he also meets Emanuel Schikaneder, who will commission him to compose “Die Zauberflöte”. Mozart holds numerous concerts in the high-class society of Vienna, but also in public Halls. His hopes to one day have a proper employment at the court of the Emperor are disappointed. This doesn’t affect his fame and high income, which exceeds the Salzburg conditions by far.
